Newsletter April 2015

PROGRESS REPORTS AND PORTFOLIOS

You will receive your child’s progress report on 20 March 2015. If there is anything you need to discuss, feel free to contact us.
Keep the exact age of your child in mind when studying the report.
For example, a child of 2 years and 3 months still has 9 more months to reach the goals on his/her level, and will still have problems with certain developmental stages.
We will arrange an interview with you if your child has a specific problem in reaching his/her outcomes, and needs extra assistance.

MESSAGES FROM PARENTS TO TEACHERS

Please note that your child’s teacher has a busy schedule during the day and this may not allow her the chance to reply to a query you may have sent on her private number. If you have an important message or an urgent answer is needed, please feel free to contact the office. Your message will be passed on promptly, and your query will be followed up immediately.

EYE SCREENING – Purple Class

On the 17th of March we had only four candidates for the eye screening process at Little Farmyard. This leads us to believe that the importance of eye screening at an early age is not stressed enough.
Sixty percent of the information received by a child in the classroom is visual, thus it is essential that a child's visual system is working effectively. It is therefore important to test their eyes from the age of 5, seen as most of a child's eye development occurs before the age of seven. Visual disorders can influence a child's development as well as their confidence.
In the past, learners have had their eye sight screened at Farmyard and problems have been detected that neither the child’s parent nor the teacher were aware of. Early detection is vital!
We urge you as parents to make use of this convenient opportunity as your child is nearing the age where they will be attending primary school. This is were they will be at a huge disadvantage if an eye issue is left undetected.
Forms are available at the office. Please hand in the form and R100 by 30 April 2015. There will be another opportunity for eye screening in the first week of May 2015.
